Go Beyond the Screen

A man wearing a brown jacket, hat, and glasses, passionately singing with his guitar raised in the air against a plain background.

I’ve been teaching guitar online for almost 20 years. Getting messages from people all over the world who learned their first song or finally nailed a chord progression is still one of my favorite parts of the job.

But every once in a while you get a chance to step away from the screen and actually make music together in the same room — and that’s a totally different experience.

That’s the idea behind the Marty Music Mountain Retreat.

For a few days we take over this incredible spot in the Catskills and turn it into a place where guitar players can hang out, learn some new things, share ideas, and just enjoy playing music together without any pressure.

I’ll be there the whole weekend teaching and leading sessions, answering questions, and of course jumping into the jams.

At night we open up the stage and anyone who wants to play can get up there and jam with our house band, The Moga Family Band, who are some of the best players in the Nashville scene. It’s a pretty special thing to plug in and play alongside musicians at that level.

Some folks come out because they’ve been learning from the videos for years and want to meet other players in the community. Others are looking to pick up new ideas or break out of a practice rut. A lot of people just want a few days where music is the main thing happening.

Whatever brings you there, the vibe is relaxed, welcoming, and all about the music.
